It deals with the status of open spaces in the traditional towns of the Kathmandu Valley. The book discusses the morphology and genesis of spaces in the past within the traditional towns of the valley.

Bharat Sharma is a Professor at the Architecture Department in the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture at the Institute of Engineering, Lalitpur, Nepal. A former president of the Society of Nepalese Architects (SONA), he worked at the Department of Building and Urban Development for 30 years before retiring as its Deputy Director General.
